Hospice West Auckland - Hospice Has Talent

During level 4 lockdown, we decided to run an online event. This was purely a “Feel Good” promotion to encourage participation, socialisation and increase our social media following. No money was to be made. We agreed on a talent quest - 'Hospice Has Talent'.

Challenges

Visibility and engagement were definitely a challenge. We did reach out to a number of celebrities and asked for their help with sharing Hospice Has Talent with their followers. We had some success with this and had a few shares from the likes of Rachel Hunter, Paula Bennet and Hilary Barry to name a few.

In the past we have had very little activity on Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and Twitter, but found this was a great time to start. We even had a go at Tik Tok!

We are definitely learning a lot about how to use the different platforms to promote our charity.

Impact

We decided to create a Facebook Group for this contest with the intent of capturing a new audience. We had over 100 people join the group and 33 entries into the competition. The entries ranged from musical numbers, singing, fire pois and cooking.

This group has since transformed into the Hospice Collective with plans to use this group for virtual volunteering projects, such as craft projects to sell, baking for bake sales and engaging people who may want to help out on a casual basis.

We feel that this was definitely the start of us being able to run more events and campaigns online.
