Driving More Good, More Effectively: Highlights from Sydney's bbcon 2019

October 20, 2019 Brian Isaac

So much is happening in the world of social good, and we couldn’t be more excited to be at the forefront of it all.

Just this week, we wrapped the 2019 edition of bbcon Australia, the alternative conference for organisations and change agents driving social good.

And what a conference it was! 370 attendees shared in the latest insights, trends, innovations, and social good community stories, from learning how to implement fundraising campaigns and measure data, to finding inspiration through stories of resilience and triumph.

Blackbaud Pacific Managing Director Kevin Sher gives the opening address at bbcon 2019.

In addition to more than 45 expert-led sessions, bbcon Australia 2019 featured an opening keynote from Tania de Jong, award-winning soprano and founder of Creative Innovation Globa, and a closing keynote presentation from powerful and inspiring community leader, defence lawyer, and refugee Deng Adut. In addition, we watched moving presentations at bbcon 2019 from featured speakers Annabelle Chauncy of School for Life Foundation; David Sexton of Variety - the Children’s Charity; Abby Clemence of Infinity Sponsorship; Cheryl Pultz of Australian Conservation Foundation, Stu Hawkins of Red Arc; and Katherine Raskob of Fundraising Institute Australia.

Over the course of the two-day event, our delegates, speakers, sponsors, and guests enjoyed learning via keynote presentations, networking sessions, and exhibitor booths. We collaborated in masterclasses and discussion panels. We even played games, held competitions, enjoyed live music, had selfies taken by an app-powered robot, and learned to use our voices to sing and harmonise together!

We also unveiled a few surprises as well. Here’s what we announced:

bbcon 2019 advances Blackbaud's higher purpose

153.

That was the number of unique missions in the bbcon 2019 audience. In the words of Blackbaud Pacific Managing Director Kevin Sher, “That’s 153 different missions that will change the world. And the world is impacted by that change more now than ever.”

What happens when all of those missions come together in the same room? Our higher purpose at Blackbaud is to build a better world, and it’s amplified when the leaders of these goals connect with each other.

When planning for bbcon, we always consider the full spectrum of community leaders and professionals in the audience. Whether you’re a small charity or part of a much larger non-profit enterprise, learning from a variety of unique perspectives is how you can make even more of a positive impact on the world.

“Education is the never-ending gift. Children are the new change-makers.”
- Annabelle Chauncy, Driving Effective Change Through Purpose and Innovation.
