This first-year initiative skyrocketed past Major Community Event benchmarks, setting a new standard for years to come. Team CatWalk Stands Strong for Those Who Can't Committed to a world free from spinal cord injury paralysis, the CatWalk Spinal Cord Injury Research Trust was formed in 2005 after founder and leading international equestrian rider Catriona Williams suffered a riding accident which left her paralysed in all four limbs and confined to a wheelchair. Her community came to her aid, intending on raising funds for her, but what presented itself instead was a much larger vision: Catriona's dream to support researchers in changing spinal cord injuries forever. Spinal cord injuries have a shattering impact on those affected and their families. The average cost of care for each high level tetraplegic (someone paralysed in all four limbs) is NZ$212,000 per year. CatWalk funds research that aims to fix paralysis that follows spinal cord injury.
