Up, Close and Personal with John Timbreza
John Timbreza is one of Blackbaud’s Technical Consultants within the enterprise CRM team.
A family-oriented man born in the Philippines in the late 70s he is the eldest of four boys who migrated to Australia in 2008, with one main objective in mind, to provide for a better life for his family.
He was educated in the Philippines and graduated with a degree in Mass Communication majoring in Communications Research. After graduating he found it challenging finding a job in his field so he secured a contact centre technical support role. It was this type of role and subsequent roles that exposed him to the field of IT.
His early days in the Philippines were not without challenges as he faced a conundrum, on the one hand trying to find any means to support his family, and on the other hand not being able to acquire a role in his field of expertise. But rising above it all is his commitment to his family that always provided him with the strong motivator to do the right thing.
His role within Blackbaud enterprise CRM team is pivotal. As a Technical Consultant he focuses on data migration conversions for enterprise level clients. In a nutshell, he enables enterprise customers to migrate their data from their current legacy system across to Blackbaud’s enterprise CRM. It’s painstaking and at the same time attention to detail is of utmost importance.
You have been with Blackbaud around 3 years what are the top three things you love about working here?
John started working at Blackbaud in June 25, 2015 and has been in his current technical role since commencement.
What he loves most about working at Blackbaud is having the ability to help his enterprise customers to improve their business processes and ultimately better their advocacy and their missions.
It’s a genuine and true part of his nature, and he has a down to earth personality who really loves helping people and customers succeed.
Even though he sometimes feels like he is working behind the scenes, he doesn’t deny that his work is intricately customer focused, and that he constantly strives to achieve the best for his customers and the organisations they serve.
John is clearly passionate about what he does and ensuring that customers make the most of their critical data assets.
“I take a lot of pride in ensuring that the data comes across seamlessly into Blackbaud’s CRM solution,” said John.
Blackbaud inspires him at another level so an additional factor about the organisation he loves is its multicultural nature.
“I love working for an organisation that is multicultural, has strong values and a customer centric approach to ensuring our customers succeed. The way BB cares about its employees and its customers – they always give heart.”
I have always loved working in organisations that bring together a unique group that I really enjoy working with, talking to and can relate to on a daily basis,” he said.
It’s always nice to see the different types of people you meet within the work environment and I am always intrigued about people and what goes on in other people’s minds,” said John.
In fact, John doesn’t deny being an avid ‘people watcher’ and in fact loves it.
What value do you believe you bring to the table for your enterprise customers?
“The value I bring to the table at Blackbaud is ensuring that my customer’s data is exported appropriately through to BBCRM and making sure it’s a seamless transition,” confirms John.
He works behind the scenes tirelessly to ensure the customer’s data is presented appropriately in BBCRM, and at the same time also making sure that the data makes sense, querying everything – I know I have done my job if there is total data integrity when it’s been brought across from the legacy system to the new system.
What do you love doing outside of work, John?
John is a doting father to two gorgeous kids – His princess Dallas who recently turned thirteen years old and young boy, Colton, who turns three in October. They are his world and his life.
“All of the things I am doing right now, it’s all for them and of course, my wife.”
What do you love doing outside of work, John?
Once you really get to know and understand John, it’s not hard to believe that he has an innate competitive nature and spirit.
This could also be one reason why he loves Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu – John plays at the competitive level. He is also a fitness fanatic which explains a lot.
When he first started training he used to do a lot of running and basketball and constantly looking for challenges. He seized playing basketball because he felt he was getting slower and the kids were getting faster
He has run two half marathons and then a full marathon and following this moved to a bigger and better challenge – Jiu-Jitsu. The reason for this was mainly because he wanted to get healthier and fitter.
“With Jiu-Jitsu I used to train 4 to five times a week before my little one was born a few years ago, now I train at least 2-3 times a week.”
John claims he used this competitive sport to help overcome spurts of anxiousness and to help him regain his confidence.
“Jiu-Jitsu is a good mechanism to utilise to gain confidence and at the same time, get fit and healthy,” claims John.
He constantly aims to go for another challenge and get comfortable with being uncomfortable and subjecting himself to constant pressure.
“Once you are on the mats there is nothing you think about but being mindful of your moves and techniques,” claims John.
Aside from being beneficial to his health he uses it as a means of meditation.
He also loves music and listens to all sorts of music – difficult to answer what may be his favourite – but he does state that grunge rock and metal were his favourites while growing up.
